There is a reason I am not a vegetarian.
My mother is a vegetarian.
Okay, that’s not the reason.
I love me a bacon cheeseburger. I love me a big slab of flank steak that I eat for dinner and then the next three breakfast’s, cold. I love me a Reuben Sandwich. I love me turkey at Thanksgiving and an occasional feast of crispy chicken skin.
When I was a kid, my mom, as she is now, was immersed completely in our religion and somewhere in there in the Bible, it told her not to eat the flesh of an animal. So, she tried hard to stop eating meat, which wasn’t easy considering that Jack-in-the-Box was at the bottom of our hill and she had difficulty resisting the drive-thru for a burger and fries.
So she became a vegetarian who ate an occasional burger.
A few years later, she somehow accomplished full vegetarianism and our meals consisted of bbq onions wrapped in a tortilla with sprouts, lettuce, broccoli and anything else that was growing in our garden. Oh yes, she would throw in some black or red beans.
I hated beans.
I just got an email from my sister who is kind of a vegetarian. She eats fish and occasional ribs. Yes, ribs. My sister is a “sometimes” vegetarian.
My stepmother is a vegetarian except she will eat two orders of bacon on any given morning. Extra crispy. Almost burnt. A vegetarian who eats occasional bacon. I am in awe.
Anyway, back to my sister. My sister makes up for some of the lack of meat eating by eating cheese, yogurt, beans, etc. Her email said to me “I’m almost a full on vegan!”
And I’m thinking “what else is there to eat?”
Not to mention “How on earth are you going to manage WITHOUT CHEESE?”
I love me some cheese.
Stinky cheese. Parmesan on food. Grilled cheese. Cheese and ham sandwich. Slices of cheese on crackers. Cheese melted on tortilla chips with onions. Cheese. Any cheese. Yes, ANY cheese.
I would die without meat and cheese.
Late last night in Boston, before heading back to our hotel, the show I went to at a private club party was over around 11pm.
I was famished.
I wanted nothing more than a double bacon cheeseburger and so we went walking around the city trying to find a place that was still serving dinner.
Ends up, where we were, everything was just all about drinks by that time and we ended up at Unos, where suddenly the hankering for a double bacon cheeseburger subsided and I suddenly wanted a chicken quesadilla.
Which I got, while others around me had salad.
And then there was a bottle of wine to be had.
And then chocolate dessert.
And then bed.
No vegetarian for me.
I woke up in the morning and we went out to breakfast, where I chose a sausage and spinach omlette.
And then went off shopping for my new Macbook Pro.
Yes, I got it.
Yes, I love it.
Now I’m just trying to figure the thing out and I realize that I am thinking too hard and it is really quite easy. I’m learning all about it. We’re getting to know each other. I am unafraid.
I-LOVE-IT.
LOVEITLOVEITLOVEIT.
HOw funny! I had a bacon cheeseburger for dinner tonight – my first ever! Don’t get me wrong – I eat cheeseburgers about once a week, but I have NEVER put bacon on it too. That was just too decadent for words. Then I followed it up with a sweet shot of the cinnamon roll variety (we went to Chili’s). I am going to have to be extra, extra good this week to recover from THAT!
Other than the once a week cheeseburgers, I’m a mostly vegetarian myself. Fish. Cheeseburger. Sometimes fried chicken (which I absolutely adore when it’s done right).
Glad you and Mac are getting along so well. Some relationships just work without much effort!
I’m glad you got the Mac and that you love it so much. I’ve wanted one for a while, but I don’t know why they’re so much better.
I also am in love with cheese. I put it on everything! All kinds of cheese. How can a person live without cheese, and why would they be so happy about it?
it’s funny how we try to be the opposite of what our parents are. long story there for both of us, i’m sure. i’m with you, though. i eat pretty veggie friendly, but have to include red meat on occasion for the added iron benefit.
super excited for your macbook pro. i’m a windows pc guy, but only because i need to be for work sake. if i could get away with it, i’d get the pro for personal use.
I love cheeseburgers, too. My best friend went Vegan and good lord, it is tough to cook for her when she visits. We made cheese out of cashews last time she was here! Vegan Mac & Cheese to be exact. It was bizarre. Kind of good in the end, but such a pain in the ass.
I could NEVER give up cheese or burgers. Or bacon. Or the occasional steak. Or gelato. I could go on and on.
I love my MacBook Pro. Every now and then I get annoyed with little quirks- like having to use Firefox for some stuff but mostly it is great! Congrats on the new baby.
I used to be veggie. I could never fully give up cheese though. Soy cheese isn’t too bad for somethings, but there is no substitute for stinky cheese.
I know lots of vegetarians. The vegetarians I know eat “vegetarian meat.” I’ve almost eaten some by accident, which upset me quite a lot (sometimes the stuff looks pretty real). I finally told one of my vegetarian friends, “Look, you people need to stop making pretend meat and confusing us carnivores. If you want meat, eat meat.”
I’m sensitive like that.
I can’t imagine giving up meat…or fried foods….or alcohol…or pretty much everything that’s bad for me. What would be the point of living?
First of all, congrats on the new MacBook, and gald the printer issues were ironed out.
Secondly, i too love me some burgers and cheese. I love Parmesan cheese, but my wife HATES it. I still eat it on pizza, pasta, even popcorn. Try it, you will love it.
I could eat lunchabels all day as well, just slices of meat, cheese and crackers. I love going to a family party and seeing a cheese and cracker tray. I would die without cheese and meat also.
I used to work for Dave & Busters and they had the BEST bacon cheeseburger ever, EVER!
So after reading this, I think I may need to go to D&B very soon.
I like veggies, but after about a week of no meat – WATCH OUT!! And no cheese? Not happening.
I have MAC envy… Enjoy!
“Stinky cheese. Parmesan on food. Grilled cheese. Cheese and ham sandwich. Slices of cheese on crackers. Cheese melted on tortilla chips with onions. Cheese. Any cheese. Yes, ANY cheese.”
Was anyone else suddenly reminded of Bubba from “Forest Gump”?: “Shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp salad, shrimp sandwich, barbecue shrimp, shrimp scampi…”
My youngest sister is almost a vegetarian, too. One who occasionally eats chicken and loves her some chicken al fredo. I empathize. How can anyone not love a big, juicy Porterhouse? Seriously.
Stacey cracked me up with her comment about confusing us carnivores with fake meat. I agree – if it kills you to eat something with a face, why are you making something that used to have a face out of tofu and calling it “vegan meat”? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Mmmm….tastes like tofurkey.
